We've got answers.

Check out our most frequently asked questions by topic, using the links below.

Are you a married couple?

Yes!  We were the first people to get married in the Queen's Law building.  We also had two other wedding ceremonies, one officiated by a fellow Queen's Law alum.  Click here for photos.

Wait... you're married... and you work together?

All true!  Both of our parents work together, so it was only natural for us to do the same.  We make a great team and often work on files together so clients get the best of both worlds.  Plus Echo loves having both of us around all day!

Speaking of your puppy, will she be at my appointment?

Yes!  Echo generally comes in to say hi during client appointments, unless otherwise requested.

I'm a little nervous about seeing a lawyer for the first time.  What should I expect?

We get it!  We are very friendly and don't take ourselves too seriously, but will give it to you straight.  We dress casually unless we're in court, and have designed our office space to be modern, cozy, and friendly.

I'm not sure if I need a lawyer.  What should I do?

Get in touch!  We are always happy to chat to see how we can help.

Does your firm handle my type of case?

The first step is to contact us.  We determine which files we take on a case-by-case basis.  If we don't take your matter, we will point you in the right direction!

Do you take legal aid files?

We do not accept legal aid files, but are happy to refer you to a colleague.  Feel free to reach out!

What do you need from me to get started?

The first step is to book an intake call and/or initial consultation (click here).  You will be sent an intake form to fill out online.

What can I expect from an initial consultation?

An initial consultation is a confidential, no strings attached, one-hour long meeting with one of our lawyers.  We will review your file, answer your questions, and discuss your legal rights and options in order to develop a strategy moving forward.  Sometimes a consultation is all you need!

How much does a consultation cost?

We charge a flat fee of $325+HST for all initial consultations.  Your invoice will be sent to you via email after your appointment along with a secure payment link.

What do I need to do before my consultation?

You can book your consultation here.  Prior to your consultation, you will need to fill out a confidential intake form sent to you via email.

What should I bring?

You will need to bring a piece of government-issued photo identification.  If there are any documents you would like us to review that have not been uploaded to your intake form, you should bring those as well.

What is a retainer agreement?

Retainer agreements lay out the terms of our lawyer-client relationship, including fees, retainers, and the scope of our services.

How does a retainer work?

A retainer is a deposit paid into our trust account for future services rendered.  Once an invoice is issued in your matter, it will be paid out of your trust account.  If there are funds left in your retainer when we close your file, they will be returned to you at no charge.

How much will you require as a retainer to start working on my file?

We determine the amount required for each retainer on a case-by-case basis.  Contact us to learn more.

What is your hourly rate?

We charge an hourly rate of $325+HST.  If both of our lawyers are at a meeting or court appearance, you will get two for the price of one!

Do you offer flat fee services?

Our firm does not offer flat fee services.  Our clients end up paying less and are more satisfied with their services when we charge by time.

How old is your puppy?

Echo was born on October 29, 2018.

What breed is Echo?

Echo is a golden retriever from Moonstone Kennels, located nearby in Conestogo.

Why is she so small?

Echo is the perfect size for an office pup, and we're pretty sure she was the runt of the litter...  Echo currently weighs 55 pounds.

What about allergies?

So far, Echo has not been allergic to any clients!  If you suffer from allergies, please let us know prior to your first appointment.

Who are the other puppies in your photos?

Echo has two boyfriends, and they are both Samoyed puppies.  Her first love is Osito (Spanish for "little bear") and her grown-up boyfriend is Theo (they've even had sleepovers).  Her best friend is a fluffy sheepadoodle named Hudson.  Check out their photos on insta here.

Give us your info and we'll get in touch.  Don't worry, it's all confidential.
